Originally from Rockton, Illinois, DownBeat Award winner, Scott Hall had the pleasure of working with William Russo and the Chicago Jazz Ensemble since 1994 as trumpeter and Assistant Conductor. As Music Director with the CJE under the artistic direction of Jon Faddis, he frequently rehearses and directs the ensemble in performance. His college training began at Northern Illinois University. He was a member of Ron Modell’s NIU Jazz Ensemble having performed with over thirty of the greatest artists in jazz. Scott moved to Chicago in 1991 to further his career in music. As a graduate jazz composition student, he received a NARAS award while arranging and performing with the DePaul University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Bob Lark

As Director of Jazz Studies at Columbia College Chicago, he passes on his experiences to the students of the Columbia College Jazz Ensemble teaching all aspects of jazz improvisation and composition. They recently toured with trombonist Robin Eubanks to area high schools. In 2003 they performed at the Vicenza Jazz Festival in Italy. The Columbia College Jazz Sextet performed at the JVC Jazz Festival this past June. The Chicago Regional IAJE Conference was a recent success at Columbia College Chicago having hosted IAJE members from an 8 state region. He is President-Elect for the Illinois unit of IAJE.

Having founded Hallway Records in 1997, he has been performing, composing, producing, and promoting Chicago jazz artists and educators through thirteen releases on the label. During this period Chicago artists reached the national jazz audience on over 100 reporting jazz radio stations in the business. Hall’s solo debut “Strength In Numbers” received 3 ½ stars from Downbeat Magazine. He has recently finished producing the soon to be released album by Hallway artist Mark Colby entitled “Speaking of Stan”. www.hallwayrecords.com

Mr. Hall has performed and mentored around the world in cities such as Montreal, Rome, New York, Chicago, New Orleans, and Milan. From 1999 – 2001, he was a mentor for the Pescara Jazz Festival Summer Workshops in Italy. Mr. Hall has been fortunate to work with many of the finest jazz artists in the world such as Jon Faddis, Mel Torme, Kurt Elling, Benny Carter, Joe Lovano, Lennie Niehaus, Lester Bowie, Roy Hargrove, Marcus Belgrave, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and more. Mr. Hall is a Conn-Selmer performing artist and plays the Conn "Vintage One" Trumpet.
